Sorry to hear of my friend passing. I am grateful for the time we spent together and his music. I remember when he used to carry his songs written on small scraps of paper everywhere with him. Glad he finally recorded some of them and I remember his pride and excitement at his first CD release party. The picture is such a poignant reminder of him for me. Mostly I will remember him like that in front of Bandito Video bundled up against the cold singing his heart out. Our discussions were sometimes animated and filled with passion (as he was). Adios amigo!

Sorry to learn of his passing. I remember Steve very well from our Codrington days, then followed him a few years later as he was a staple among the folk music scene in downtown Barrie (places like the old armoury/farmer's market building on Mulcaster, the Anglican Church hall on Collier, and the restaurant that became Hooters in later years on the waterfront at the foot of Collier Street). In the late 70s, I produced and directed a folk music show for the Barrie cable station, when its studio was over on Patterson Road. Steve and Greg Laing were two of the regulars who appeared on the show. Alas, no episodes remain, as the videotapes were recorded over on a regular basis. I last saw Steve a few years ago at a Fred Grant Squares show at the old Clarkson patio at the corner of Mulcaster and Dunlop. I was with David Perryman and Jeff Snape, when Steve stopped by on his bike. We all reminisced into the evening.

So sad to hear of Steve' passing. There are a couple of tunes that he played for us early 80's that still stick in my head. Calvero' Dream and the other was calked something like, What's Wrong is Right. I used to call it the Mortgage song as one of the lines was, "I don't want to get a mortgage or make a down payment on a car." His music will keep his memory alive. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Linda MacGregor
Do you have funeral arrangements? I'd like to try and attend

I’m so sorry to hear this news Sarah. I was close to Steve in the early 80’s We had some great musical nights in Toronto with Steve playing guitar & my sister’s singing along. One song that always stuck was CALVERO’S DREAM. It was mine & my sister, Shelley’s favourite song.
We lost touch for many years, but Steve came to TO for a visit about 7 years ago. I was doing a gig & had him sing and play a few songs of his. I’m so glad I was able to connect with Steve & buy his last couple of CD’s. Steve was so talented & a real shame that the world didn’t hear his music. I’m one of the lucky ones
Jennifer MacGregor
I would also like to attend with my sister’s if possible Sarah.

I would also like to attend with my sister’s if possible Sarah.
